SLOW-POKE PADDLE

Do you have a recreational, tandem or inflatable kayak? Are you an inexperienced paddler than would like to start off slow (for now) and would to like to just leisurely paddle around with similar folks?

Well this is your lucky day! While in this paddle, we will wait for everyone and everyone is expected to do the same. No speeders.

Let’s meet with other slow-pokes for a paddle around the Boulder Islands off the Personal Water Craft Beach (PWC Beach) this Saturday, July 18, 2009, 2:30 p.m. We wil wait a few minutes ONLY if you let us know you are running late. We will meet at the Personal Water Craft Beach. From the intersection of Lakeshore Road/Hemenway Harbor, as you head to the water, the dirt road on the left to PWC Beach is .7 miles, go another .4 miles and PWC Beach is on the right

We will paddle around the immediate islands, find a cove, even a take a couple of breaks.

Rentals:
Please contact Desert River Outfitters to rent a boat for this event. Be sure to let Helen know that you're with the Las Vegas Kayakers Meetup group when you call.

Things to take on this paddle:

Map – You need to know which beach to go to.
Water - Several liters (2-3), July can be very hot.
Paddle Gloves - Good chance you'll get blisters on your thumbs (optional).
Hat – One with a wide brim will keep the sun off your face and ears.
Sunglasses – The reflection can really be harsh.
Sunscreen – No one wants to see you look like a lobster after a paddle.
Camera – Picture taking opportunities are everywhere especially with slow pokes.
Snacks – Don't forget to bring a snack to replenish your energy levels.
Water Toys – We may stop and toss some water toys around.

Please remember to bring your sense of adventure and let's have fun!

Kellie, the outfitter will diver and pick up the kayak at the beach. If you don't own a kayak, you probably don't have the rigging to transport one.

I still have an extra Necky sit inside recreational that is available for someone to use - paddle/vest also. I can bring it with me, I can also provide a ride if necessary.

Well.... last time it was the rain & hail, this time it was the wind. But just like last time we had fun, got a few new boats out there for their maiden voyage, had a few new and return paddlers to the “Slow Poke Paddle”, Thanks for the Tony’s Pizza suggestion Emily, made a nice finish to a great day on the water.
  • Mary Ellen
